CM Johnson Visit_122020.jpg

It means so much when our city's leadership takes an interest in our work. We enjoyed a visit this week from Councilman Brandon Johnson

to our virtual classroom where we shared about students' progress and all that we've learned in working to keep a safe learning environment in the midst of a pandemic.

We take the necessary steps to keep safe and healthy environments for our program participants. We're so thankful for our cleaning professionals who provide routine Disinfecting and Sanitizing services for our Online Virtual School Environment at Dellrose United Methodist Church to ensure the health and safety of residents at It Takes A Village, Inc. We also routinely Disinfect and Sanitize our seven Transitional Living Group Homes.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Wichita middle and high schoolers began remote learning this week. For some, not being in the classroom has been a big adjustment. Now, organizations throughout the community are stepping to help students who need it.

Wichita, KS – It Takes a Village, Inc. is providing a safe return to school for 15 students in foster care thanks to a generous sponsorship by Fidelity Bank.

The contribution allowed It Takes a Village to hire four paraprofessionals to provide instruction to students in the virtual learning environment the organization created in the Dellrose United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Fidelity’s sponsorship also helped the nonprofit to secure equipment, conduct sterilization and cleaning of the learning space and provide hand sanitizers and masks to the students and educators.

“With our new virtual school environment, our partnership with Fidelity Bank is essential to the success of our foster care teens,” said Terry Atwater, CEO/Executive Director. “We appreciate the corporate partnership and help of everyone as we embark on this new way of doing school.”

It Takes a Village, Inc. provides transitional homes, structured support, life skills development and educational and employment opportunities to youth in the foster care system.

“I’m in awe of the dedication shown to every teenager served by this organization,” said Aaron Bastian, Fidelity Bank’s President/CEO. “After talking with Terry about his students’ needs, especially during this pandemic where learning is undoubtedly going to be different, we felt this provided a great opportunity to help.”
